Continuity of Midwifery Care: Eligible midwife
The governments Maternity Services Reforms has given women more choice by being able to access midwife maternity services subsidised by via Medicare Benefits and later pharmaceutical Benefits. Continuity of Care allows women to have a known midwife throughout her care whether this is a planned hospital or homebirth providing individual support throughout their labour and birth: it’s about having time to talk, engaging and building a relationship with the woman and her family; Midwives are experts in the ‘normal’, providing information, support and ongoing care midwives also have the skills to refer when required.
